New shade, same lamp

A custom lampshade for the lamp you already own.

When a shade breaks, goes missing or no longer suits the room, the lamp does not have to go. Send photos of your lamp and how the old shade was fitted, and pick a shape. We 3D print a replacement lampshade that fits your lamp holder and base, in the colour you choose, and ship it from Groningen.

Can I have just a new shade made for my lamp?

Yes. The shade is made for your lamp: the opening matches your lamp holder, the fitting matches how the old shade was held, and the size suits the base or pendant. You choose the shape and colour, from the shades below or from your own idea.

What we need: photos of the lamp with and without its shade, the lamp holder type and the size of the shade ring or support. If you are not sure what to measure, the measuring guide walks you through it.

Below are shades and lamps from our collection. Choose a shape and send photos and measurements of your lamp. We first check whether the design and licence allow a separate shade or adapted fitting. Your quote confirms the available size, fitting and colour. You can also request a complete lamp.

The product pages show the price of the product as listed there. A shade in another size or with another fitting is custom work: you get a quote first, including shipping to your country.

A printed shade is a good fit when

  • the base or pendant still works and only the shade needs replacing;
  • you want a shape or colour you cannot find in shops;
  • your lamp needs a size no standard shade comes in;
  • you use an LED bulb or are happy to switch to one.

Someone else is a better fit for

  • fabric, linen, glass or wicker shades, or re-covering an old shade;
  • incandescent or halogen bulbs that run hot inside a plastic shade;
  • outdoor lamps or lamps in damp rooms;
  • repairing a broken lamp holder, cable or switch.

What to expect

  • The first review of your request is free.
  • You see the size, opening and fitting we work to before anything is printed.
  • Lead time: typically 5–15 working days after approval of the quote or model, depending on size and complexity. The exact schedule is in the quote.

Which lampshade fitting does your lamp have?

Table and floor lamps usually hold the shade in one of two ways. A spider fitting is a wire frame with a ring that rests on a harp above the bulb, held by a finial. An uno fitter is a ring that screws onto the lamp holder below the bulb. Pendant lights often use a shade ring that clamps the shade around the lamp holder; in the UK these are sold as easy fit shades.

The lamp holder matters too: E27 and E14 are common across the EU, B22 bayonet in the UK and Ireland. A shade made for the right holder has the right opening, so you do not need a reducer ring to make it sit properly. Tell us which fitting you have, or send a photo and we will identify it.

How to choose the right shade for your lamp

Start with the type of lamp. A table or floor lamp needs a shade that hides the bulb when you sit or walk past; above a dining table, a pendant shade mostly decides how widely the light falls. Then look at the base: a tall, slim base carries a different shade from a low, wide one, and a shade that is too big for the fitting looks top-heavy and can tip.

Then choose the effect. A light shade with an open pattern glows all over; a dark or closed shade keeps the light in and sends it up and down. If you are torn between two shapes, send a photo of the lamp where it stands and we will suggest the shape and size that suit it.

A shade from our collection, made for your lamp

The shades on this page already exist as designs, so you can see the shape and how light passes through it before you order. For your lamp we adapt the size and the fitting and print the shade in one of our filament colours.

Some designs come from independent designers whose work we produce under licence. Whether a shape can be made in another size is part of the review of your request.

From a single shade to a complete lamp

Is the base or cable also due for replacement, or do you want the shade somewhere new? Then we make it a complete lamp: printed shade and base, lamp holder, cable, switch and bulb, assembled and checked.

Heat and light: use an LED bulb

A printed shade is made of plastic. Incandescent and halogen bulbs run too hot for it; use an LED bulb. In the review we look at the distance between bulb and shade and at where the lamp will stand or hang.

Wall thickness, colour and pattern decide how much light comes through. A pale, thin-walled shade gives a soft glow; a dark or dense one throws the light up and down.

Your own shade design or a model you found

Seen a 3D-printed lampshade on MakerWorld, Printables or another model site, or have your own idea? Send the link, a sketch or a photo. We check whether the shape prints well, whether the model may be printed for your use, and how to make it fit your lamp.

Quoted separately and confirmed in writing before anything starts. You know up front what the shade costs, how it is fitted, what shipping to your country costs and when it arrives.

Frequently asked questions about a custom lampshade

Will a 3D-printed shade fit my existing lamp?

Usually, yes. We make the opening and fitting to suit your lamp holder, spider, uno fitter or pendant ring. For that we need photos and a few measurements; the outside diameter of the old shade alone is not enough.

Does any lampshade fit any lamp?

No. Shades are fitted in different ways, and lamp holders differ (E27, E14, B22). A shade that is too big for the fitting looks top-heavy and can tip; one with the wrong opening needs an adapter. That is why we make the shade for your lamp.

How do I measure my lamp for a new shade?

Note the lamp holder type, the inner diameter of the shade ring or support, the height of the base and the height and width you want. The measuring guide in our knowledge base lists everything.

Can I get a shade from this page in another size?

Often, yes. Whether it can and may be made depends on the design and its licence; you see that in the review first.

Do you ship lampshades outside the Netherlands?

Yes, we ship to other EU countries. The shipping cost for your address is in the quote before you approve it.

What bulb can I use in a printed shade?

An LED bulb. Incandescent and halogen bulbs get too hot for a plastic shade.

Can the shade become a complete lamp?

Yes. We then also supply the base or suspension, lamp holder, cable, switch and bulb, assembled and checked.

Can you make a fabric shade or re-cover my old one?

No. Fabric, glass and wicker shades and re-covering belong to a lampshade maker. We print shades in plastic.

Send a photo of your lamp and pick a shade.

Photos of the lamp and how the old shade was fitted, the lamp holder type and the shape you want. You get a review first, then a quote for the shade or a complete lamp, including shipping to your country.
