For a replacement shade, start with the holder, available space and existing light source. Those facts let you discuss shape without inferring mechanical fit or heat behaviour from a photograph. For a product proposal, request an assessment through custom 3D-printed lamps.
This guide collects mechanical dimensions. It does not instruct you to alter a socket, wiring or electrical parts. Thermal and electrical suitability remain questions for the responsible qualified party.
Download the English project worksheet. Open it as UTF-8 CSV, replace the guide context with your project inputs and record observations separately from acceptance decisions. Blank cells do not indicate a passed check.
Identify the existing fixture
Record make, model, rating-label information and a photograph ID for the complete fixture. Treat socket type as identification only. The example is a fictional measurement record for a non-electrical shade around an existing fixture, not installation instructions or a safety assessment.
Measure the mechanical holder and ring
Measure the existing holder and ring: outside diameter, inside diameter where relevant, thickness and shape. Photograph perpendicular to the contact face with a measurement reference, and identify the reference plane. Stop if the holder is damaged, distorted or unclear. An online dimension does not replace the real fixture.
Describe the intended mechanical fit using tolerance and clearance. If components are being supplied or fitted, define them through Print & Assembly. Dimensional agreement is not electrical or thermal approval.
Complete the mechanical intake
| Field | Synthetic entry | Required follow-up |
|---|---|---|
| Fixture ID | LAMP-EXAMPLE-01 | Replace with actual ID |
| Holder outside dimension | 40.0 mm | Measure actual holder |
| Ring/contact thickness | 3.0 mm | Assess fit |
| Maximum shade diameter | 220 mm | Check surrounding space |
| Maximum height | 180 mm | Check suspension and surroundings |
| Distance to light source | 45 mm | Thermal assessment remains open |
These are editorial values only. Do not copy them to a real fixture.
Record clearance and unresolved suitability questions
Measure distances to wall, ceiling, cord, switch and nearby objects in the actual use position. Record orientation, ventilation openings and how the shade is mechanically placed and removed. Describe the light source only from identifiable rating or packaging information.
Assign the unresolved suitability questions
A shade that fits geometrically can still be unsuitable thermally or electrically. Unknown temperature, material response, electrical alterations, conformity and fire risk must remain explicit questions with a responsible assessor and required evidence. Low stated wattage alone is not a complete suitability assessment.
Distinguish design readiness from installation approval
Proceeding with design preparation means the mechanical inputs are clear and the relevant suitability assessment has an owner. It does not mean the shade is approved for installation. Actual fit, material behaviour and intended use still need assessment.
Request the shade with its lamp context
Send the fixture make and model, photographs, holder dimensions and desired outer shape to custom lamps. State whether you want a shade alone or a complete execution discussed. Confirm included components, work and outstanding assessments.
If the light pattern matters, use the translucent PETG guide to distinguish light transmission from a clear view through the material. That appearance requirement sits alongside mechanical, thermal and electrical questions; it does not replace them.
