We print it in the colours you see in the photos: a black frame with a red stone. Hang it on your keys, your bag or the zip of your backpack. Key ring included. This is decoration, not a toy; not suitable for children under 3 (small parts).

Why does a cut gem have facets?
Facets make a gem sparkle. According to Encyclopaedia Britannica, a cut stone gets its brilliance because light is refracted and reflected by the facets. A cutter sacrifices a lot of rough material for this, often half of the stone or more, but the value of the gem rises considerably as a result.
What the light does
The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) describes three effects you see in a cut diamond, viewed from above:
- Brightness: reflections of white light, inside the stone and on the outside.
- Fire: light that splits into rainbow colours.
- Scintillation: points of light that flash when the stone, you or the light source moves, and the pattern of light and dark areas.
Different cuts
- Brilliant: now the favourite for diamonds; according to Britannica first used around 1700.
- Rose cut: developed in the seventeenth century.
- Step cut and pear cut: together with the brilliant and the rose, the four most widely used faceted shapes.
- Cabochon: without facets, with a domed top and a flat underside.
Which shape is most beautiful depends on the stone and on what you want to show: colour, brilliance or a calm, smooth shape.
Synthetic gems
Synthetic gems are made too, such as rubies, sapphires and emeralds. According to Britannica this is done in two ways: by growing crystals from a solution or from a melt.
A printed stone
The charm by Deadmoon Designs uses the shape of a cut stone, with facets in an octagonal frame. Because it is made of opaque plastic, you see the facets mainly as a shape and not as sparkle. How nice such small faces turn out also depends on the finishing after printing; you can read more about that in the knowledge-base article on finishing 3D prints.
On your bag or the zip of your backpack, the red stone catches the eye straight away. To keep it looking good, wipe it with a soft, dry cloth and do not leave it in full sun behind glass.
