We print it in the colours you see in the photos: brown with a cream snout. Hang it on your keys or bag, or stand it on a shelf. Key ring included. This is decoration, not a toy; not suitable for children under 3 (small parts).

How big does a brown bear get?
That depends heavily on where it lives and what it eats. According to the International Association for Bear Research and Management (IBA), adult males often weigh around 200 kilos. On average this ranges by area from about 90 kilos in Canada's Jasper to 360 kilos on the coast of Alaska. Some coastal males that eat a lot of salmon even grow heavier than 770 kilos.
Males, females and seasons
Males are at least 20 per cent bigger than females, sometimes even twice as big. Body length is usually between 1.8 and 2.2 metres.
The season counts too. In summer and autumn a bear stores fat for its winter rest. It then eats roots, grasses, berries, nuts, insects and, where possible, salmon.
Why bears differ so much
Where there is plenty of food, such as along rivers with salmon, bears grow bigger. According to the IBA, bears that live almost entirely on fruit are about half the size of bears that eat salmon, even though they are the same species. The grizzly is a brown bear too: it is a subspecies.
In Europe, brown bears live among other places in the Carpathians, especially in Romania, in the Dinaric Alps and in Scandinavia. In the Netherlands the brown bear has been wiped out.
Useful comparisons
- Newborn cub: about 450 grams, born in the winter den.
- Adult male: often around 200 kilos.
- Body length: usually 1.8 to 2.2 metres.
- Heaviest coastal bears: more than 770 kilos.
The bear on your keys
Biocraftlab's brown bear is a lot handier: a round little figure with a light snout and hinged legs and neck. Do not leave it on a car dashboard in the sun, because ordinary print plastic such as PLA softens from about 55 to 60 °C. Which print plastic copes better with heat, you can read in the knowledge-base article PLA or PETG.
On your keys it is happiest on the included key ring. Move the legs and neck gently and the hinges stay smooth. Remove dust between the parts with a soft brush, and a damp cloth is enough if it has got dirty.
