About Beaver
This beaver comes from Biocraftlab's Boreal Forest series. Its trademark is the broad, flat tail with a texture on it. The legs and tail are hinged, so it stands on four legs, lies flat or lifts its tail. The figure is printed in one piece, with the hinges built in. Designed by Biocraftlab.
We print it in the colours you see in the photos: cream with a dark brown tail and ears and white teeth. Hang it on your keys or bag, or stand it on a shelf. Key ring included. This is decoration, not a toy; not suitable for children under 3 (small parts).

Frequently asked questions
How does a beaver build a dam?
It gnaws down trees and uses them to build a dam in a small stream, so the water gets deeper and the entrance to its lodge or burrow stays under water. More about this in the guide on this page.
What moves or clicks on this keychain, and does it suit keys or a bag?
Nothing clicks: the legs and tail are hinged, and the figure is printed in one piece. We print the version with a hole for a key ring, and the key ring is included.
What does it cost (€19 incl. VAT), what colour is it printed in, is a key ring included and when is it delivered?
It costs €19 incl. VAT. We print it in the colours you see in the photos: cream with a dark brown tail and ears and white teeth. Key ring included. We print after you pay and deliver within 30 days; shipping within the Netherlands is included. If you have a deadline, put it in the remarks field; we confirm by email.

How does a beaver build a dam?
A beaver gnaws down trees, among other things to build dams with them, and places them in small flowing waters up to about five metres wide. This makes the water behind the dam deeper and keeps the level stable. The entrance to its lodge or burrow then lies deeper under water: natural protection against predators, and it is warmer inside too.
Why a dam?
This creates deeper water in front of the entrance to the burrow or lodge, with more room to lay in a winter store of gnawed-off branches. The dam may also help the beaver during long droughts, because the water at the entrance then drops less far.
If a water manager removes a dam, beavers usually rebuild it quickly, because they want to keep that higher water level.
Back after a long absence
In 1826 the last Dutch beaver was killed, in the IJssel near Zalk. From October 1988, 42 beavers from the Elbe were released in the Biesbosch over four years. Other areas followed later, including the Gelderse Poort, Limburg, Drenthe and Groningen.
According to the Dutch Mammal Society, more than a thousand beavers now live in Limburg, in streams too. Some of the dams there cause waterlogged fields or flooding. The Limburg water board and the Dutch Mammal Society therefore studied whether a stream can be laid out so that beavers have less need for dams.
Signs of a beaver
- Gnawed-down trees: usually small trees, which it uses for dams and as food.
- Gnaw marks on large trees: especially when food is scarce.
- Trees with wire mesh around them: this is how managers protect trees from further gnawing.
- A dam in a stream, with a higher water level behind it.
The beaver on your keys
Biocraftlab's beaver has that typical flat, textured tail, and the tail is hinged too. Such a flat, broad part shows how important the position on the print bed is: the visible side and the direction of the layers determine how good-looking and how sturdy a detail becomes. That is the topic of the knowledge-base article on 3D print orientation.
