More than the printed shape
3D printing and assembly: from separate parts to a complete object
A lamp needs more than a printed shade. A pendant needs an attachment that fits its opening. Tell me what the object must do and which components you already have. We agree the printed parts, extra components, finishing and assembly before production.
What does assembly include in your order?
Printing produces one or more plastic parts. Assembly brings the specified parts and additional components together into the agreed execution. The quote may cover loose prints, a partly assembled object or a complete specified product. An item is not automatically included because it appears in a photograph.
Start with the components that must work together
List printed and non-printed parts: for example, a lamp holder, cable, light source, hanging ring or inner vase. Identify what you already have, including type, dimensions and photographs of the connections. Agree who supplies each part; a complete example photograph is not a parts list.
For a third-party design, send the exact model link and available assembly instructions. Rights and requested changes are assessed first. Permission to print a model does not determine which extra components your quote includes.
Fit depends on the connection, not just the outside size
An overall dimension does not show whether a lamp holder passes through an opening or a lid fits. Identify contact surfaces, sliding or gripping connections and parts that must stay aligned. A critical connection may need a trial before the complete shape is made.
Intended size, permitted deviation and designed clearance are different. No single clearance suits every material, model and use. The connection also depends on how the object is handled and whether it must reopen.
Decide what must remain accessible before printing
Must a light source remain accessible, a cable replaceable or an inner tray removable? Include that requirement in the design. A closed shape can look convincing on screen while preventing assembly or maintenance.
A split model also needs part boundaries, alignment and visible seams considered. Connection method, working space and assembly order belong in the same discussion. Permanent glue is not automatically suitable for an object that must reopen; a specific method is agreed only after assessment.
A lamp: shade, holder and cable as an agreed whole
The lamp page accepts requests for a shade around an existing holder or a complete lamp. Holder, cable length, switch and light source affect the execution. Actual workshop photographs show previously made forms; your components, checks and use are agreed separately. Installation in your home is not included by default.
A photo or logo with a holder and light
A lithophane can be a separate photo panel or an agreed execution with a holder or lighting. The photograph, crop and dimensions define the panel; the holder must then fit it. A logo lightbox has its own enquiry route for the required shape and indoor use.
Jewellery: the printed shape and its attachment
A cord, ring, hook or clasp is often a separate component. The hanging hole must accommodate that attachment. The jewellery page includes real workshop photographs and asks about dimensions, weight and skin contact. Assembly alone does not establish comfort or material safety.
Agree finishing, checks and delivered state together
Visible faces and access determine where support marks or seams matter. Before production, mark the surfaces people see and the dimensions that must still fit after finishing. Only agreed finishing and checks form part of the order.
The quote lists printed parts, additional components, assembly, checks, packaging and shipping as applicable. Some operations repeat for each copy. A material-only price therefore does not represent the assembled result.
Questions about delivery and assembly
Can I receive only the loose printed parts?
Yes. Specify loose prints as the required delivered state. Extra components and assembly are included only when listed in the quote.
Can I supply components I already own?
Provide their type, dimensions and condition. Suitability and handover arrangements are agreed for each request.
Are fittings shown in a photograph included?
A photograph does not establish that. The quote specifies the non-printed parts supplied and those you provide or add yourself.
Can the object reopen after assembly?
State that as a design requirement, including what must remain accessible. The connection and opening space need assessment before production.
Which assembly checks are included?
Only those agreed for your execution. A visual or fit check is not certification or a general strength test.
When are costs and assembly confirmed?
The scope of printing, components, finishing, assembly and delivery is quoted and confirmed in writing before the start. Production follows approval and the agreed payment.
